pre modern diets lacking in calories and nutrients, frequent famines, seasonal food shortages, diseases, physical labour in agriculture all delayed puberty to around 15-17 for girls generally. The cleanest records we have are from the 1800s Victorian era and the age was 16/17 then. The average girl in medivial times was simply not biological equipped to support puberty below that age. I don’t understand where the myth comes from 😬

yep. it most likely comes down to 2 main reasons, they were malnourished, and ppl were likely also counting puberty when a woman gets her period, not early signs such as body odor or hair growth in private areas.

I think it's purely because of better nutrition that girls are starting puberty earlier. In medieval times commoners and peasant girls started their periods much later than girls from noble families

I think even though they were still children they learned how to be an adult much earlier bc their living conditions were harsher and they weren’t sheltered. Kids now seem more immature bc life’s easier and are more sheltered

It’s laughably bad how they try to justify it in multiple ways, one time it’s Aisha being conveniently 18 one time it was normal for the time (It wasn’t the byzantines had the age of marriage at 12)

this is such an interesting topic that i hadn’t given much thought before! i got mine quite early as well (at around 9 just a little before my 10th birthday). i wish the world cared more about the female anatomy. they use our bodies to birth children but never actually care about our well-being. more reasons to never have children.

like have they ever seen a 6 year old child😭😭😭😭😭 how can you EVER believe they’re ready for marriage. why is the boy never 6 years old. why do they think puberty is a binary thing when infact it’s a process spread across years. why do they believe one has to MARRY a girl and consummate that marriage in order to care for that girl and protect her.

It’s frustrating when Muslims make those arguments about Aisha when it’s documented that she was eating dates and cucumbers to fatten up. Am I really supposed to believe she looked like Hulk Hogan at six to nine years old😭😭 especially when those are low calorie foods and when children back then were generally underdeveloped anyway
