Indonesia is a democratic country, and growing up there, one thing I learned is that the people deserve to be treated better. I am proud of its culture, nature, and people, but I am never proud of my government. One thing that never makes sense to me, for context, having worked there as a teacher, how can a member of parliament, who does little for the people, earn over IDR 100 million (US$6,000+) per month including benefits, while many guru honorer (contract teachers) struggle with only idr 500,000 to 2,000,000 (US$30 to 125) per month? Some even earn less than that, and yet they are the ones educating the next generation 🥺 How can individuals who don’t even know how to carry themselves properly in public hold influential positions in the country?
