The comments on here are wild !! But, we are going to throw in our opinion - from a Geologist - these are Selenite, which is part of the Gypsum family. It is a type of evaporite, which will have formed hundreds of thousands of years ago when this part of the world was under water and the water receded. Not all selenite is white fyi, that is just one type called satin spar and it gets its white appearance due to its fibrous formation. Most gypsum is actually transparent or semi transparent due to inclusions. And regarding the solubility of selenite, whilst it is soluble it is NOT instantaneous- like bicarbonate of soda - it would take years for these to degrade in the ocean. These pieces have been suspended in the matrix of the cliffs for hundreds of thousands of years and If the OP didn’t collect them they would be swept away by the ocean.

Selenite dissolves in water so I would suggest it’s not selenite. Great finds though. Thanks for sharing.

In Suffolk there’s a beach called bawdsey you can find crystals fools gold meg teeth sharks and rays teeth there’s loads more fossils to it’s my fav place to go it’s south Suffolk

It’s illegal to remove shells and crystals from UK beaches under the Coastal Protection Act 1949. This is due to the materials acting as a natural defence against coastal erosion

I live in Kent. I used to have a friend that would bring me selenite from that beach of course they don’t look like selenite bought in the shops which is may be what is confusing people

The water quality there is dreadful. Check out surfers against sewage for updates. Please make sure you throughly wash yourself and whatever you find.

Selenite is clear, often Selenite in shops is actually Satin Spar which is white and fibrous. Selenite varies from clear to smooth white, so it can be confusing. Lemurian quartz comes from a place Brazil and is expensive.
