totally agree with the message. but…as someone from a european country the entire homeschooling thing is WILD to me. and tbh it‘s not common in any country of europe as far as I know and I‘m not even sure it‘s legal in austria 😅 how do parents know stuff that people study for? you know what I mean? how do you ensure a certain standard in education? and I do not mean you specifically, it‘s no criticism at all, I‘m just curious.

And not family WANTS to do! I WANT a career. I WANT my child (who doesn’t need any ‘special’ educational supports, etc) to go to public school. I WANT her to have those experiences. And even as a former teacher I wouldn’t be a good teacher FOR HER. I value other people’s choice to homeschool and my choice to partake in our public school system, and both things are ok. Imagine being a mom that CHOSE to send their child to school and your child experiences a shooting and seeing people having this conversation like it’s your fault?? Like dang…, people should get to raise their children how they want to.

As a homeschooling mother, I agree. It’s insane and not even the reason I homeschool. People need to read the room and zip it truly.

As a public school teacher, thank you!!! Homeschooling is great for some families, it is not feasible for others. Homeschooling is not for everyone for multiple reasons.

Homeschooling also doesn’t fix the gun violence in this country. Most parents are not able to do so.

The fact that every tragedy these days gets politicized is truly infuriating.

My kids (mainly my oldest) went through a school shooting May 2024. Nothing like your daughter texting you those things and how scared she was. But, going back to school was also so healing for her. 🥰

I have two littles, I don’t WANT to homeschool, I don’t think I’d be good at it. But the thought of sending them into a building they could be hunted and killed in terrifies me.

We would LOVE to homeschool, but we can’t afford one of us staying home. I was homeschooled growing up, but public school is where my kid has to go

I was in high school when Columbine happened. I remember being grateful that my country had tighter gun laws. I wish we gave mental health the same amount of attention - so many of these shootings are also stories of people falling through the cracks and feeling like they have no other option.

As a homeschool mom myself, it definitely a PRIVILEGE. But what made me homeschool is the idea of school sh00tings. We haven’t had one in my town. But it scared me. I started homeschooling when my oldest was in the 6th grade. We make so many sacrifices doing it.

Or why is the problem to them the fact that children are at school. And not the fact that someone who shouldn’t have had access to a weapon or the school did. That we have had countless similar incidence babies lives lost and the govt can only offer thoughts and prayers or blame teachers and students for not being prepared to be attacked in the classroom and no plan to stop these attackers.

Well said. I homeschool, but that doesn’t mean I don’t care about kids who go to public schools. Btw, $11B to have every K-12 school in the U.S. assessed for security flaws, and have them implemented. Congress needs to act!

As a former educator. Not everyone should be homeschooling their children. I fear many children are going to be falling behind.

“I could never imagine sending my kid to daycare.” Well I love working, our daycare teachers are amazing, and my kids are thriving upon entering public school! Very well said. In a world divided, we can understand others while not have to be the same

Words out of my mouth 🩷. I live in Canada and it is getting more violent here by the day. I wish so badly I could afford to keep my children in the home. It does NOT make it easier for parents to hear “just homeschool”
