![- A suspect has been arrested after three Palestinian students were shot on Saturday night in the US state of Vermont in a suspected hate-motivated crime. CNN reported that Jason J. Eaton, 48, was arrested on Sunday afternoon. “In this charged moment, no one can look at this incident and not suspect that it may have been a hate-motivated crime,” Burlington Police Chief Jon Murad said in a statement. “That there is an indication that this shooting could have been motivated by hate is chilling, and this possibility is being prioritised [by police]“, said Miro Weinberger, mayor of Burlington. The three 20-year-old students, identified as Tahseen Ahmed, Kinnan Abdel Hamid and Hisham Awartani were en route to dinner, wearing keffiyehs and speaking in Arabic, when they were shot. All three remained under medical care on Sunday, two with gunshot wounds in their torsos and one shot in the lower extremities. “Two are stable, while one has sustained much more serious injuries,” police said. - A collective of language activists has accused the BBC of mistranslating an interview recorded in Arabic with a released Palestinian prisoner, so that she appeared to be praising Hamas despite never mentioning the group. Respond Crisis Translation said that her original quote attacking her Israeli captors for the inhumane conditions prisoners were kept under - “they imprisoned us for a month. She then said “they sprayed us with pepper spray and left us to die inside the prison”, which the subtitles translated as “and we love them very much”, which could make it appear as if her sentiments were directed at Hamas. “She never mentioned Hamas or a word like it,” the organisation tweeted. “This egregious mistranslation is not just a language error; it is a racist fabrication that fans the flames of the war. “Mistranslations such as these - intentional or not - are exacerbating the ongoing genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.” - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday told US President Joe Biden that Israel would resume its campaign in Gaza with full force once a temporary truce comes to an end, Reuters reported. However, Netanyahu also said he would welcome extending the truce if it facilitated the release of 10 additional hostages every day, as agreed under the original Qatari-brokered deal. To date, there have been 117 prisoners released during the temporary truce and 54 hostages. Earlier on Sunday a source close to Hamas said that the group was willing to extend the current truce with Israel in Gaza for two to four days beyond its initial expiry on Monday. “Hamas informed the mediators that the resistance movements were willing to extend the current truce by two to four days.
