I had to have an entire conversation with my mother about how big of an impact Desensitization has on younger generations that grew up with, or grew into technology and mass connections as a regular facet of their lives. They may not have first-hand experiences of some of these traumatic events but do they seriously need to?? I thought psychological trauma was something we wanted to.. ya know.. avoid

My dad gave me a trench coat once just out of the blue and when I took it he said yeah I was in Burlington Coat Factory when I watched the challenger explode on the tv and then I bought this trench coat. Like that was a normal thing to say???

don't forget that when 9/11 happened they played that shit in kindergarten and got picked up with crying parents. then every year since then we get to see it and learn it inside out over and over. We get to relive it and as we get older, we understand more and more the severity of it and how it effected people.

Fun fact, they almost sent Bigbird into space instead of the teacher. The only reason they didn’t is because it would’ve been a pain in the a$$ to stick a dude that was in a 7 foot bird suit in a rocket and/or shuttle.

There’s actually a movie they showed to show the horrors of war back then if im not mistaken. It traumatized everyone from what I remember reading

I also watched the challenge of blowup live. It’s my first big news event memory. We’re watching it in school. I think I was in the third grade.

a history teacher mentioned this to me in highschool and it changed the way I saw history/the ancient world: In a lot of societies where war/battle was prevalent the fighting was done by the regular people. So imagine, you and almost everyone you know, all your homies, all your family have killed other people with a pointy stick. Imagine what that would do to society...
