The Red Avadavat (Amandava amandava), also commonly known as the Strawberry Finch or Red Munia, is a small, strikingly colorful seed-eating bird native to the open grasslands and shrublands of tropical South and Southeast Asia. Renowned for its vibrant plumage, the male undergoes a dramatic transformation during the breeding season, molting into a brilliant crimson-red body adorned with tiny white spots, earning it the "Strawberry" nickname. This contrasts with its deep brown wings and a distinctive scarlet beak. Females and non-breeding males are more subdued, primarily clad in dull brown and grey, which provides excellent camouflage. These highly social birds are often found in large flocks, constantly communicating with soft, melodious calls.
