Mali_Ségou_region_curfew_extended_by_30_days_amid_rising_violence Authorities in Mali have extended a nightly curfew in the central Ségou regio by an additional 30 days due to a spike in violence linked to armed groups and banditry. The decision, announced by the regional governor, aims to curb insecurity and prevent further civilian casualties in one of the country’s most volatile areas. The curfew, which runs from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. , was initially imposed in early August following a wave of deadly attacks on villages, military convoys, and public infrastructure. In recent weeks, several clashes between security forces and insurgents have resulted in dozens of deaths, including soldiers and civilians. Authorities say the extension is necessary to facilitate military operations and protect humanitarian efforts in rural zones where attacks on aid convoys and health workers have become increasingly common. The measure prohibits all movement during curfew hours, with exceptions granted only to security forces and individuals with special authorization. The Ségou region, which borders the troubled Mopti and Koulikoro regions, has seen a resurgence in violence blamed on jihadist groups affiliated with al-Qaeda and the Islamic State, as well as local militias involved in ethnic and land-related conflicts. The instability has forced thousands to flee their homes, worsening the already fragile humanitarian situation. Security analysts warn that the prolonged presence of non-state armed actors in the region risksundermining the transitional government’s efforts to stabilize central Mali. The curfew forms part of a broader set of emergency measures aimed at regaining control over rural territories. While authorities say the restrictions have contributed to a reduction in nighttime attacks, residents express growing concern over restricted movement and economic hardship, particularly for traders and farmers whose livelihoods depend on early and late travel. #Desitdown #News #Mali #Ségou #region #curfew #extended #30 days #amid #rising #violence)
