Advertising pharmaceuticals is a longstanding practice, with self medicating being the norm prior to WWII. Current distinctions between prescribed meds and OTC meds is recent, 1950s in the US, and thalidomide was at the center of regulating ads. That again changed with Reagan, as regs were loosened under the guise of “informing consumers.”

It’s the same here in Saudi Arabia! Although don’t think I’ve seen any advertisements for anything other than Vicks vapor rub and some newer generation antihistamines. Panadol is allowed to be advertised but ibuprofen isn’t allowed because ibuprofen is prescription grade.

I hate living in the US. There's so, so many reasons, and this is just a small one, that's actually really important and dangerous. The US model is inhumane and honestly evil. Profits over everything.

In Canada, we have the really weird situation where they can advertise, name the drug but not say what the drug does. So it leads to really cryptic advertisements telling you to ask your doctor if it is right for you

And really Switzerland is not the United States. And yes their are. Drugs, cigarates, and alcohol is all over the cable states. This was not the case in the 1960's.

Yes we do. If a drug might be if use and you learn about it through an ad, youernment are unacceptable can discuss it with your doctor, whose prescription would be jecessary to get it. The paternalistic, sit down and shut up attitude of your government is for children. Uh, yeah.

so companies sell the same med under two different names... which (partially) defeats the purpose. i don't think they should be allowed to advertise any medication
