I would be more specific because that's Rocinha and they have a good tourist industry. I wouldn't advise tourists to go into a random favela.

DONT! You can’t simply decide to go in a favela - you might never come back from there. Do it if you have TRUSTED guides that know that community very well. - Also, poverty is not tourism! Yes, there’s a lot of culture, beautiful and good people over there, but their situation was neglected by the government for ever.
