@peeliesnpetals: It never gets easier and I don’t think it ever should. The ache of taking a life is what keeps us human. A reminder that the life we hold in our hands is sacred. Every feather, every heartbeat, every quiet moment of care leads to this. When you close the gap between where you get your food, you get to experience gratitude in its rawest form. It’s the knowing that these lives sustain our own, that their sacrifice will feed our family. It’s the weight of responsibility and the beauty of the full circle of life. #chicken #homesteading #cornishcross #gratitude
I firmly believe that this lost reverence is why we have so much food waste. if more understood the connection & the sacrifice that comes with raising the food we eat, there would be so much more appreciation & less waste.

We are doing this today as well. I always feel the deep sense of regret but I taught my kids to honor the sacrifice. Big hugs.

Culling days are always filled with tears and yes as it should be. I’d be really concerned if it didn’t sadden me. I’m so grateful for my birds.

I heard someone say they used to work at Tyson and if people saw what happens there you’d never eat their chicken again. Thank you for revering the circle of life and showing us the way

and this is why we are so loud about using every part that you can. you dont waste food when you cared for it, processed it, and then cooked it all with your own 2 hands.

Thank you Sarah for thanking them and praying over them. This is the only way any animal should be harvested. Always grateful when my hunters would pray over Gods animals provided for their families

Knowing they had the best life possible and the best death as well. That’s the way through it. It makes you appreciate the food they provide.

Deep respect. There are fates far worse than death. A good death is a kindness, any one of would wish for ourselves and anyone we love.

if I cannot harvest it myself, I will not ingest it. Vegetarian for more than 10 years. My chickens get popcorn, watermelon, chilli, tomato, lettuce (picnic) once a week and pass from natural causes. I respect you, but I could never take life from what trusts me.
Blessings eternal. You are living a wholese, conscious life
