I’m on TPN (total parenteral nutrition), which means I get all of my nutrition through a central line that goes directly into my heart. And that starts with accessing my port—safely, sterilely, and one step at a time. Accessing a port isn’t optional—it has to be done perfectly every time to avoid serious complications like infections or bloodborne issues. It used to terrify me. Now, it’s part of my routine. I share this not for sympathy, but to show what chronic illness and medical independence can actually look like. It’s quiet strength. It’s adapting.
