Our brains worked in different ways, and trying to work together was often challenging. We always had good intentions, but we needed to build a middle language that served both of our brains. About two years ago, my wife came up with this template for a family meeting. She designed it based on how her brain processes information for the week ahead, and asked if I’d do it weekly with her. Of course I said, heck yeah, and the rest is history. In about 20 minutes we are aligned on the week ahead and also more emotionally in touch with how we can show up for each other throughout the week. We also usually catch up financially during this time, and pay bills, plan meals, etc. Having a single weekly meeting has not only become a fun ritual, but also made it so we aren’t constantly trying to catch each other throughout the week when things are more likely to fall through the cracks. we’ve heard a lot of feedback that this works great for romantic partners as well as roommates, family members, and even as a solo weekly alignment tool.
