@realagriculture: Cotton is a mess! A cotton producer's grandfather sold cotton for more 60 years ago than she could get for it today. Times are tough in the cotton industry. #cotton #farming #economy #agriculture #Texas #cashbid

As a cotton producer in west Texas,I can say that it makes no sense to save the US cotton industry. We have no spinning or textile mills in this country. Why buy US cotton at an inflated price when one can purchase from Australia or Brazil at a discounted price? It all has to be shipped to Vietnam or China for a finished product anyway.

Yeild hasnt improved that much, my dad made 2.5 bale per acre average in the early 70s….thats still our average to day and we still get payed roughly the same as he did back then, the only thing thats gone up is the input costs

We keep talking about how we need to fix these things in agriculture but we’ve been talking about it for years. When will something be done or is there anything that can even be done.

Polyester seems to be taking over. Demand has slipped. Look at what so many are wearing now.

Rice, corn and soybeans are the same way. No one is farming to make a profit this time.

All ag products sucks. Worse than I have seen. Most farms around me are now owned by big corporations. Days of family farming is disappearing. Unfortunately I hate that.

Cotton industry has been a loser in the US for a long time. We planted our last field in 2012. It was a sad transition considering how long we had grown the crop and how much it had become embedded into our personal identities. But our financial situation has meaningfully improved since switching out. I look at prices today and thank god we aren’t growing it anymore.

Until something changes with the difference in input cost vs the actual price of cotton per pound, there will be fewer and fewer acres next year! Prime example is Mississippi Delta. I hate to say this, but Georgia is headed that way! Somewhere and somehow, these larger companies in the ag sector need to take one for the team! In Georgia, we pay the highest technology fee simply because we can plant fewer seed/acre so therefore we get penalized for it🤷‍♂️. We need to find other markets besides China to sell our cotton to! It’s sickening to see where cotton was just 15-20 years ago to where it is today!
