Not true. They need to repeat residency in the United States.

To practice medicine in the United States, they should all be required to undergo U.S residency training in the United States healthcare systems.

Oh my gosh, Tommy! Please do a minimum of research!!! They have to do either Residencies or multiple Fellowships IN THE US in addition to passing the USMLE!!! Only a few states have pathways where they don’t have to repeat their Residencies that they did in foreign countries!

Probably related to healthcare systems as opposed to the individual doctors

Bad hospital systems employ immigrant physicians (who of course or often very good) without ensuring that they are versed in certain aspects of medical legal procedure. HCP precepts for example.

I mean that is a measure of poverty. India is poor and therefore has a poor baseline health services. This really is completely aside from the ability of doctors. Not to mention we have such shortage of many specialists here, and your solution is to…have less??

I’ll say that any physician I’ve been to that was trained internationally has been amazing. I’m a rather complex patient with rare conditions. They’ve always listened intently to me, figured out what is going on, & provided me with the correct treatment. I work in the healthcare field & I know 100% when I’m being gaslight by a provider.

So you’re only looking at the physicians & not the resources or the health care system as a whole. What resources do they have? Money involved? Medications? How many hospitals? How much staff? Health systems are not just physicians either. They are nurses, phlebotomists, Rad techs, etc. If you come here from a foreign country, you still need the US requirements. I know doctors from Brazil that came here and had to redo school because they didn’t meet the US requirements. This is a horrible analysis on this statistic.

Having diversity seems positive, as long as they can pass the test. How are they statistically as obstetricians? Is there any way to welcome more of those doctors from other countries?

The Lancet is a highly regarded British medical journal. It is read by most US Internists.

the context you’re missing here is that these IMGs are then going into residency for supervised training for a minimum of 3 years. The thing that I have commented before and seemed to be popular was your opinion on non residency non medical school trained nurse practicioners with online degrees practicing independently in the US. IMGs have large guard rails and standards set to ensure competency I don’t see the same elsewhere

Do you think our health system here is any better? It’s hard to go off of one report of any kind like that. It’s becoming worse every year. What would prompt any physician to move here? The system in India must be horrible. A lot of these doctors are absolutely brilliant. But all physicians as a whole are being subjected to insane insurance guidelines then having to deal with denials or approval routines that they’re not being paid for. PBM’s that are countering doctor’s prescriptions.

Tommy. You bigoted moron. USA spends $~14k per capita on healthcare vs India’s $200. There’s also the neat fact that India has a litteral billion more people than the US. It’s a resources problem - not an intelligence problem.

I understand the thought process but you have to understand that everyone did take the same written exam like you said the USMLE. Whether you study a text book in outer space or in the US it doesnt matter, it’s whether the person learned it or not. The training happens during residency which has to happen in the US to practice here. I’m a US citizen with Indian heritage and I’m a doctor. I can tell you that the doctors coming from India are just as great the ones that went to med school here. I know you’re trying not to pass judgement but this gives people a false idea about Indian doctors abilities.
