I think alot of you fail to understand that while yes it can seem selfish, Maelle is a 16 year old child dealing with immense survivors guilt, her mom hates her and lowkey wishes she died in the fire, her sister preferred verso cause maelle didn't even want to be a painter (she preferred writing), and her father was basically trapped in the canvas trying to stop his wife from killing herself out of grief and the worst part is she can't even express it due to her severe injuries. And not for nothing, calling Maelle's ending selfish is a complete disregard for Sciel, Lune, even Gustave, what now since we find out they aren't real people their feelings suddenly don't matter, we cried when Gustave died, we felt pain hearing Sciel's loss of both her husband and child, and we sympathized with Lune when she talked about her family trauma and how pressured she felt to please them. People process grief in many different ways, and if Maelle wanted to live the rest of her shortlived life in a lie, then I truly can not blame her personally

Both endings present downsides but I’ll always go with Verso’s. Seeing Gustave and Sophie feels more wrong than happy.

i’ll if you’ve experienced this but just in case… don’t let commenters or chat bully you about your decision. i’ve seen a lot of that behavior towards people who chose Maelle’s ending, and it’s been very off putting and damaging for a lot of people. there are positives and negatives, truths and consequences, good and bad to both endings. there is no perfect answer. your perspective is your own, and that’s wonderful. don’t let a vocal minority of meanies affect how you feel about the endings of the game🫶🫶

Not sure if you saw the other ending yet but I honestly don’t think there’s a right or good ending. They both have their moral/ethical dilemmas seen through to their logical conclusions and both have their benefits, drawbacks and unintended consequences IMO. I just beat it a few days ago and I think I’ll be turning each ending over in my brain for a long time to come.

the one thing I can say about maelles end is that regardless if you think the people of the canvas are real, they are not the same as the versions that were painted by her mother. they are a new copy made from her memories and beliefs.

there is no right or wrong choices, they're both "big oof" choices because the situation is so effed up 😭 it's a very conflicting story and then we get wrapped up into it so now we also feel conflicted lol. it's a very good game to make us feel this way and certain people get a little too into it which is why they feel a certain way. 🤷🏻‍♀️just my two cents.

This is why it’s a masterpiece of a game. I see so many good points when it pertains to the game itself, most people view the endings negatively, while that is valid, I view it as it pertains to my own life as a gamer. Maelles ending to represent a gamers desire to escape and how we become so attached to said games wishing it never ends constantly wanting to return and play, while Verso ending to represent moving on from said game, knowing we all have to live our lives but always remembering the journey we took with characters we love, hopefully applying our positive interpretations of the game and make us more prepared to face what life throws at us. Life is all about Balance Clair/Obscur, Light/Dark “A life to paint, A life to love” life imitates art, art imitates life! Just my thoughts. 🤔
