It’s NOT your LO, it’s the disease. Whew! 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨 Depending on the diagnosis and your LO, behaviors will present differently in every person. Everyone is not the same. You may see crying, pacing, biting, hitting, screaming, wandering, cursing, talking nonstop, or EEEEEEE’ing. Yesterday was a whole lot of EEEEEE’ing! Mommy never used to make that sound during the day. She only did it at night when we put her to bed. After she had Covid in July ‘23 (the first time ever 🥹), she declined significantly. Her gait slowed down, she became more dependent, and the EEEEE’ing started more during the day. Now, it’s becoming a comfort to her! It’s wearing us out. Jesus be a fence!!! We have to laugh so we won’t pull our hair out. This is real life. We HAVE to be patient because 👉🏾it’s not her. It’s the disease. One of the things I try to teach people is your LO’s exhibited behavior(s) has more to do with confusion, anxiety, agitation, frustration, and fear than it has to do with us being uncomfortable or tired of the behavior. It’s hard, but can you imagine how trapped they feel?! Here are some suggestions: 1. Track when the behavior is occurring. This will give you the baseline data to see 👉🏾how often, when, and why! 2. After looking at the data, determine what’s happening during that time that may trigger the behavior. 3. After reviewing and determining the trigger(s), adjust the environment. 4. Be patient, loving, calm, affectionate, and peaceful. 5. If all else fails, do what I do, give her an F, and start EEEE’ing with her. 😮‍💨🥴😩 I’m hosting a class this THURSDAY that deals with managing behaviors. I would love to see you there. 🤎 We’ve got this. We’re going to beat this. incaseiforgetconsulting.com #alz #dementia #behavior #dementiaawareness #dementiasupport #dementiadaughter #alzheimersawareness #gertrudejordan
