This could be totally wrong, but from what I’ve heard in crowded cities like nyc, cafes have to not be too comfy or they’ll be kicking out homeless people all day.

i yearn for a comfy couch or cushioned seats at least, warm lighting, and a colorful chalkboard menu with pictures of the drinks/food drawn on and an artist well-paid for making it for them i swear.

There is a great cozy coffee place in my city, but there is always a huge line and you are very lucky if you actually get a place to sit - like this is clearly what the ppl want!

i used to work at a cafe that changed ownership and went from ADORABLE cozy vibes to sterile, cold white and stainless steel and i HATED it

I work in one of those white sharp coffee shops and it’s a logistical nightmare. The owner definitely prefers aesthetics over anything practical. EACH plate and mug are TWENTY DOLLARS! And they’re broken and stolen everyday. All the countertops and cabinets in the barista station are white and the counters are stained so bad after only being open less than a year. We had a tissue box stolen and the owner was so mad and I didn’t know why until someone told me it cost $500 dollars…. There’s a chandelier in there that’s 15,000. The whole thing is ridiculous 😭
