While I love Catcher, perhaps I’m Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter is great. It has voice, it has diversity and has a character with depression. It is updated and not a privileged White boy.

Could you do this for a 9th grade student, please? We are secular homeschoolers, and my daughter loves creative writing (and reading)!

Dune is also fantastic in its detailing of psychic abilities and dreams. We can all describe food, locations, sounds for the most part. It’s a whole other thing to, in words, capture the feeling of a dream or an LSD trip and simultaneously keep the overall narrative structure cohesive within the overarching plot.

Good list, but I'd maybe expand on this diversifying the Author choice. Mix in POC or do a reading choice board of two choices for each option. I also love overanalyzing short stories as for characterization and specific things. A good example would be Luis Borges's short story collections. His stories are always fun to analyze from a writers lens.

Hey! I’m somebody who wants to write more, can you give me more for characters who are both bad and good? I want to write in the perspective of a teenage (17-18) serial killer, but 1, I think that concept is a little cringy (idk why), and 2, I want to make my MC more than just ‘angry teen killing people’ (like I want to give them nuance and stuff) please and thank you!! :3

I feel giddy that I've read (and love!) almost all these titles.
(also, agreed. Fingersmith plot twist is such a delight. I can still remember the "wtf???!" moment I experienced first time round lol)
