Thanks for sharing this! Just to add, Rumi was Persian by language and culture. He was born in Balkh, which is today in Afghanistan, but in his time that region was part of the broader Persian world. Afghans, as a distinct national identity, emerged later, yet they remain an important part of that shared heritage. So it’s most accurate to see Rumi as a Persian poet whose birthplace is in today’s Afghanistan.
