They've made new ones that have inner teeth separate to a rotating outer to prevent being able to do this. These types are still common but I'd say they'll be phasing them out in the future 😮‍💨

Higher quality wristbands have the teeth inside turnable independent of the outer shell. So it doesn‘t work on them. European festivals do have these ones. But still it does the trick on cheaper ones.
