Fellow Archaeologists, I have colleagues who remain very open minded because they have personally excavated things they can’t explain. I will push back on racist theories all day, but I don’t correct people when they get excited to tell me their favorite harmless ideas. The dialog is the important part. Even recent historical archaeological discoveries can go unanswered until the right demographic recognizes an object.

My favorite is when they start talking about Göbekli Tepe conspiracies like it's not literally on the cover of one of the most common archaeology textbooks 💀💀💀

You do realize how weird it is to use fossil fuels and black carbonized rocks as a fuel source right? There are definitely some crazies out there but I think most people say “advanced” and “alternative power” to mean something like steam or geothermal power for example

Considering quantum science is proving newtons physics are training wheels. Academia is like shell art I’d say these day! 😇

“Advanced” is kinda arbitrary. I think almost all ancient civilizations were more advanced than many folks give them credit for, not like Stargate or interplanetary travel. Like some ancients had hot water running in pipes in their house that a large chunk of the world still doesn’t enjoy.
