No no. You both need to close the lid before flush so it won’t splash up in the air . Because whatever goes up, it will come down spread out unto your sink, curler iron, makeup , toothbrush and etc. That’s what the lid are for

so based on this logic, it's based on whoever has to touch the toilet seat is required to move the toilet seat. whoever has to sit, is touching the seat with part of their body already. so that would place the requirement on whoever needs to have the seat down, should put it up.
