Hawksbill. It’s short but the view at sunset I’ll never get over. Pair it with Big Lost Cove Cliffs and it’s a good day of hiking. Just did Roan this weekend and even in the pouring rain it was gorgeous!!

grandfather mountain is still my top out of all the places I’ve been. Love the ladders. Old rag in Shenandoah also great for a long weekend trip. But I loved Hanging Rock in NC too

try hanging rock state park, and stone mountain state park. my hiking days are over but I've done the 3 you talk about.. Grandfather my favorite probably because you can get ice cream at the top 😂

From Durham you should consider coming to Stokes County and Hanging Rock State Park. There’s a great loop hike that seems to fit what you’re looking for - Cook’s Wall, Moore’s Wall, add in Hanging Rock itself

Grassy ridge is my favorite hike on the east coast. I’ve lived all over the east coast and can say after hiking roan mountain I knew I wanted to live here. 💛 I live super close to pisgah but always detour to go to roan when I can

Check out Little Hump and Big Hump mountains hike. It’s in the same general area as Roan. I’ve usually done it as a 9.5 mile out and back. Definitely not an easy hike but not technical. Great views.
