They way I’ve lost several jobs/opportunities over people hanging up. It’s soo frustrating 😭

as an interpreter, 💯. it's terrible how public your info is without your consent.

There should be an option to opt out or an option for higher level security. I get it’s basically calling a call center and they have to train but training people shouldn’t be able to get a call like that.

I manage student observations for VRS and I’m horrified by this breach of your privacy! I hope you made a complaint to the VRS provider!

My mom’s deaf and she always gets frustrated with people on the app because they don’t call the other person she wants to talk to fast enough 🥺

Ohh yikes to all of this. But fyi with Convo we can make our default setting to “do not announce” and the terp won’t say it’s a video relay call

Omg!!!!!! Not the call for a training oh that’s not right!!!!! I’m so sorry Girl. Similarly, people who are unable to drive have to book bus rides at least 24 hours in advance and they can even leave them/not pick them up. Ableism is so deep in our systems.

You’re allowed to tell the interpreter do not announce because it’s your call. Also, you are allowed to tell the interpreter I’m letting you know right now if you got something going on or whatever what the case might be then I’d rather you just switch to a different interpreter because this is a job interview and I need you to be as professional can be . You have every right to make sure your call goes you want to we are here for you Just speaking as an vrs interpreter.

my husband is deaf and when he calls he has to wait for a Spanish interpreter. so ASL to his Spanish speaking family. that is a long wait at times because they are hard to come by

1 example... 2 hrs on hold with the county with a client in a previous social work job. county assumed it was a scam since the client was female and the interpreter voice was male, so we got hung up on. wtf. this shit happened sooooo often. tried to push deaf culture trainings (free! of course presenters got paid though from our agency) and the county turned us down several times.

I’m not deaf but I have a similar situation where I don’t have vocal cords so I obviously cannot make phone calls. It’s so hard to make a simple appointment, job interviews, etc! 100% agree there needs to be a better system! ❤️

Just throwing this out there as a former VRS terp: Have you ever used VCO? (Voice carry over). Some callers decide to use their voice and then use the interpreter to get the information from the hearing caller. It might be better because you can control the call how you want. Also, DNA (do not announce) makes it so we don’t announce that it is an interpreted call. We are not required to tell the business, it’s up to you. Now, warning, many hearing do hang up on DNA calls because the flow of the call is awkward and they can tell it’s not a traditional call; just some food for thought. If you don’t want to use VCO, totally get it, just throwing it out there. Sorry you’ve had bad experiences; not excusable at all. 😭
