Did you know that our cortisol level is the highest when we first wake up? Do you know what raises your cortisol levels? Coffee on an empty stomach!! 😬 In the last year I have learned a lot about why hormones can keep us overweight no matter how hard we try to lose weight. Let's discuss cortisol. Cortisol is your hormone responsible for many functions, one function is when your body is in fight or flight your adrenals release a bunch of cortisol to give you a quick burst of energy. Now unfortunately our bodies cannot decipher whether we are being chased by a bear or we are rushing around trying to get everything done. So if you are constantly under extreme stress your body is constantly releasing cortisol leading to high cortisol levels. High cortisol can cause weight gain, digestive issues, anxiety, & depression. Basically we will never really lose the weight until we get our cortisol levels in check. I've learned to start small-the first thing I gave up was Coffee (don't come at me Coffee was always my go to first thing in the morning. I'd stop at Dunkin' for my iced coffee loaded with sugary syrups. And not eat until almost dinner time. & Drinking them on an empty stomach for YEARS had wrecked havoc on my cortisol levels. Honestly I have not had even one sip of coffee since December 2022. I don't ever see myself having coffee again. Anywho- I could just talk all day about this. 😆 Oh p.s.
