He’s telling the truth though. Japanese are taught to finish the plate irrespective how full you are - this is a gesture of respect. But many foreigners just leave the food if they can’t finish and it is wasteful

I dont think its nothing to do with racism. They decided to adjust that default probably because they learned from experiences foreigners wasting food. People are saying that its fine bc its paid full price but its not about money. Finishing what you ordered at the restaurant is the way of showing respect and an appreciation in japanese culture and i've noticed that its not the case in other countries. (i wouldn't say all other countries tho)
