Another interesting fact is that right versus left wing politics is not really a thing in Singapore. The country basically Cherry Picks the policies that it wants. A bit of socialist, a bit of capitalist, a bit of democracy, a bit of autocracy. Whatever provides the benefits and meets long term objectives. Another feature is the Sovereign Fund - tax dollars invested and multiplied for maximum payback to the citizens.

Fun fact Singapore is the only country in the world that became independent despite not wanting to be independent. Malaysia basically kicked them out of the country. The malaysian government was quite racist at the time didn’t want a cosmopolitan Malaysia so they kicked out Singapore because LKY wasn’t willing to go along with it.

Fact is Singapore is not a democracy (western version) but is viewed as one by the West because of strategic interest. Shows no system is better than the other. What is important is improving the life of its population. Long live Singapore

Many claim LKY is a dictator. In a way, yes. An elected dictator, he ruled with an iron fist. Only in a dictatorship can progress be this fast. 60yrs was all it took, from GDP/cap of $600 to $88k. This dictator believes in "justice", equality, prosperity and progress for his people. Nothing stands in the way of these objectives. Individual rights is nothing, the rights of the masses override that. But Singapore is also not without its unhappy people, because like I said policies are focused to benefit the masses.
