As someone who works for a peer-reviewed journal, I'm begging people to use citation management software. I have yet to see an article where they haven't forgotten to put at least 1 in-line citation into the works cited, and just using zotero would fix that. I see lots of people in the comments have had tech issues with Zotero...I never have (have spent many years with it), but I guess I can understand why that would deter people. There's huge community support for it though, who happily help with any issies

The fact that zotero DELETES notes I’ve taken on some documents. I’ve nearly had a stroke when I found out that almost 200 pages worth of notes had been deleted just like that (for my MA thesis). I’m happy I had a copy elsewhere. I would have bawled my eyes out otherwise.

But zotero is so nice 😭 i did the built in thing for my bachelors and masters but for the phd i am close to over 200 references and im not even done with the firsr draft

I use zotero but also save my citations to an old fashioned word doc. Never keep your eggs in one basket. I’m covered no matter what.

All of those programs like Zotero were great up to a point. I found just keeping an ongoing reference list in MS Word worked for me.

I don’t care if I’m a dinosaur, it saves me time to do it manually and then sort with the sort paragraph feature. I have trust issues after one time the file glitched and messed the whole thing up

Honestly, I never got into using a citation programme, it never does the footnotes they way i like. Currently in the final year of my phd and I‘m still typing everything by hand 😬
