Three years ago today, I kissed my newborn daughter goodbye before heading to work for the first time after giving birth. That kiss carried so much love, so much hope — but also a heavy weight. I posted this video and it reached over 6 million views, was reposted by multiple news outlet and really sparked a deeper conversation surrounding motherhood and the tension we feel so early on. I chose to be a working mom not because it was my first choice, but because I had no other option. Like so many women, I didn’t have the privilege of a long maternity leave or the space to just be with my baby during those precious first weeks and months. If you’ve been here since then, you know that soon after giving birth I relocated from Texas to Indiana and needed to live with my mom. I started working while my body was still healing from birth. Motherhood is beautiful, but it’s also complicated. Society often forces us into an impossible choice: be a stay-at-home mom and sacrifice financial independence, or return to work too soon and sacrifice those irreplaceable moments with our babies. This conversation is bigger than me — it’s about all women’s right to focus on our children without the crushing pressure of inadequate maternity leave policies. It’s about recognizing the emotional, physical, and mental labor behind every mother’s choice. I want to hear from you — whether you stayed home, worked, or navigated both worlds. What was your experience like? How can we, as a society, better support mothers so no one has to feel torn between love and livelihood? Let’s create a space where every woman’s motherhood journey is honored and supported — not judged or limited. Because when mothers thrive, families and communities thrive too. #equity #equityinmotherhood #sahm #workingmom #singlemom #fyp #storytelling
