Le roi avait, quelques années auparavant, distrait ces pièces de son usage personnel pour y loger sa belle-fille, Marie-Josèphe de Saxe, veuve depuis 1765. Celle-ci disparut deux ans plus tard et le logement, vacant, fut attribué à Madame du Barry. L’appartement, qui prend jour tant sur la cour de Marbre que sur la cour des CerfsCour intérieure située entre le Château Vieux et la partie nord de l’enveloppe Le Vau. Elle tire son nom des têtes de cerfs en terre cuite peintes au naturel et munies de vrais bois que Louis XV y fit placer en 1723., est somptueux. On y accède par le degré du Roi. Une antichambre ouvre sur un salon de compagnie. Viennent ensuite, dans l’enfilade (qui occupe l’espace de l’ancienne galerie des Chasses exotiques de Louis XV), le grand cabinet et la chambre à coucher, laquelle communique par un escalier dérobé avec les Petits Appartements du roi. Sur la cour des Cerfs, une salle à manger, une seconde antichambre et une pièce des bains complètent l’ensemble, auquel s’ajoutent une bibliothèque et quelques pièces de service. - ENG => Countess Du Barry's Apartment The last mistress of Louis XV, Countess Du Barry, moved into this very large apartment in 1769. A few years earlier, the king had repurposed these rooms for his daughter-in-law, Marie-Josèphe of Saxony, widowed since 1765. She died two years later, and the vacant apartment was then given to Madame du Barry. The apartment, which overlooks both the Marble Courtyard and the Stag Courtyard (an inner courtyard located between the Old Castle and the northern part of the Le Vau complex, named for the terracotta stag heads painted in naturalistic style and fitted with real antlers that Louis XV had placed there in 1723), is sumptuous. It is accessed via the King's Staircase. An antechamber opens onto a drawing room. Next, in the suite of rooms (which occupies the space of Louis XV's former Exotic Hunting Gallery), come the grand study and the bedroom, which connects via a hidden staircase to the King's Private Apartments.
