@blueultra4: Lucky Dube was born in Ermelo, in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province. His mother, who named him "Lucky" because she felt fortunate to have him, raised him along with his siblings. Growing up during the apartheid era, he experienced firsthand the struggles of racial segregation and social inequality, which later deeply influenced his music. As a young boy, Dube joined a choir at school and developed an early passion for music. Along with his cousins and brother, he formed a band called The Skyway Band. --- Music Career Initially, Lucky Dube began recording mbaqanga, a Zulu traditional music style, with the group The Love Brothers in the early 1980s. However, after being introduced to the sounds of reggae and inspired by artists like Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, he shifted towards reggae — a genre that became his lifelong calling. In 1984, he released his first reggae album, Rastas Never Die. Although the album was banned by the South African government for its politically charged messages, it laid the foundation for his future in conscious music. His major breakthrough came with the 1985 album Think About the Children, which became a commercial success and established him as one of Africa’s most important reggae voices. Over the years, he released more than 20 albums in Zulu, English, and Afrikaans. His notable works include Slave (1989), Prisoner (1989), and Together as One (1988). These albums addressed issues such as apartheid, inequality, freedom, and unity. Lucky Dube became internationally recognized, touring across Africa, Europe, the Caribbean, and the United States.
