@rue_the_rescue: This is a little summary of what our week looked like when doing “home alone training” to support Rue with her separation anxiety. As you’ll see, some sessions go to plan, some don’t, but the most important part is going at a pace that works for your dog. Rue has now gone from panicking after just 40 seconds of being alone, to being comfortable at home for an hour. The training isn’t easy and is full of setbacks, but milestones like this prove to me how right I was to stick it 🤍 #adoptdontshop #rescuedogs #separationanxiety #separationanxietydog #DogTraining
How is he so calm at first? Did you train him to not bark when you leave?

You’re doing amazing! It took me a good year and a half for my rescue to be able to be on her own for more than an hour. Now I can leave her for up to 4 hours in the evening!! If you’re up for it, crate training has been a game changer, she falls straight asleep. It took a long time to get her comfortable in the crate but now she often sleeps in it during the day as well

I felt this! it's so so difficult and it really bugs me when other people who haven't experienced it so "oh just leave them they'll eventually get used to it and stop barking/howling" 🥺

i cannot wait for the day my boy can be alone for an hour and im not worried he's eaten something. we've got him semi-comfortable in a room alone, so we're building on that.

Rue is so cute! My dachshund has separation anxiety and I feel like every time we get 3 weeks into training he just starts to regress. Did you use a specific training plan for Rue?

I still have a note on my phone of our dog’s progress, we started with howling after six minutes! That was 2023 and by 2024 he was doing an hour and by New Year this year he could do four hours+. Also weirdly I think our dogs have the same bed! Good luck with your journey ❤️

Going through this with my mini dachshund atm. Breaks my heart leaving him! I’ve started putting him in a doggy daycare 1 afternoon a week and he seems to be really enjoying it so far!

After 18 months of my rescue with separation anxiety I left her today for 20 minutes and she fell asleep on the spare bed 😭😭😭 it feels like the biggest deal when they’re okay alone!!

That’s amazing Rue!! Our dog can’t even stay alone for 3 minutes without freaking out and we can’t take her places as she is also reactive 😭
