The chisme in Mexico about certain animals being evil is a bummer. Don’t like this one at all.

My paternal grandmother, who was rumored to be a bruja. My grandparents came from Cuauhtémoc, Mexico. My grandfather was known as a womanizer with several affairs. When a new schoolteacher, who was notably attractive, moved into the neighborhood, she caught my grandfather’s eye. This sparked rumors that eventually made it back to my grandmother. One day, my grandmother decided to welcome the new teacher by bringing her tamales. The teacher, unaware of who my grandmother was, accepted the tamales, ate some, and stored the rest in the fridge. Hours later, when she took the container out, she found it filled with maggots, dirt and slime completely different from earlier. She was puzzled and didn’t suspect any ill intent from my grandmother. Shortly after, the teacher fell seriously ill, and her appearance began to change drastically. She went from being the most popular person in the neighborhood to being shunned by everyone. Concerned, her family took her to a curandero, a traditional male healer, who told them she had been cursed. To break the curse, the curandero said he needed to send it back to the source. However, he was only able to banish her, which meant she could never return to Mexico. Within a week, my grandma and the entire family moved to Texas. Interestingly, the curandero died the very next day.

A girl that my husband was friends with was in love with him. Tried befriending me until I found out about her intentions. Her father is a Santeria priest. Ever since I called her out I've gotten super super sick. I swear on everything I've been cursed.

it sounds like black magic. In Africa similar spells are created using animals like frogs, armadelos, poison spiders and herbs. The symptoms will always mimic either the features of the animal or the effects when the animal has on others when it attacks.

That indeed was brujería. I remember when I was between 10-12 years old my grandfather getting really sick and spending the entire month of December in the hotel because the doctors could not figure out what was wrong with him even as he got worse. My mom and her siblings ended decided it was better if he return to El Salvador and go see a bruja to see if it would help. I remember hearing that someone had put a curse on him and that it was a large reptile in his stomach. I don’t remember much about this since the adults kept it quite but I do remember my grandfather getting much better and having a healthy life until his death 10 years later

Brujeria. Food is special. You have to have good intentions when you make it. Latinos know the rules we don’t eat it unless abuelita made it with love.

Honestly I believe it. I’m not Hispanic but even in the South, you know not to just eat anyone and everybody’s food.

I may need to speak to a brujeria. A good one. Tell me why I heard this and my sister came to mine. I’ve done energy work and energy healing with the professional, and they told me I had someone that was a sibling of mine that has always been jealous and insecure around me and immediately when she said that I knew with all doubt that it was my sister and she has been married to a Hispanic guy for many years and she’s traveled to Mexico to see his family for years. I do feel strongly that my sister‘s in someway because when I tell you, I’ve had a struggle I am not kidding. Life should not be this hard like life should not be this hard.

I was so confused until she told me that the lady was not trustworthy and u don't know what she put in it..the next day I'm gathering up the trash and the pastry that she tossed the day before was crawling with maggots😳

Yeah that was real for sure. I didn’t believe any superstitious stuff but my MIL taught me about mal de ojo and how and when to cleanse it from a baby and I swear that saved me so much headache from “collic” as they like to call it when they don’t believe in spiritual sicknesses. Now I believe pretty much any spiritual story from a mexican woman who seems otherwise sound of mind. They don’t play around.

I've never really believed in this I've heard so many stories BUT I have been praying over my food now that I'm older because someone might not like you or even just cook the food when upset and negative you never know.
