@possiblyatherapist: Disclaimer: This is not the main cause for depression but it is a theme i’ve noticed. I do believe that a big contributor to depression is the innability to expressed when we we’ve been wronged. That’s what anger is, it’s a feeling that we or someone else has been slighted, betrayed, hurt, etc. Anger is a secondary emotion meaning it’s a response to another emotion like the ones mentioned above. Anger gets a bad rap, but it is what helps us correct or rectify the issue if expressed healthily. When we can’t for whatever reason (whether we actually can’t or truly believe we can’t) and it get’s redirected inwards, depression can be one of the consequences. A hopelessness that comes from the innability to influence the world around us. #anger #depression #depressionawareness #depressionhelp #kpopdemonhunters
That empty chair technique was extremely effective, I still flashback to it and it gave me the strength to remove the person it was directed towards from my life. I felt liberated.

i notice that alot of depressed people are numb, so not even feeling anything at all. Anger is very powerful so when expressed even just a little bit it can make u feel again

So wait you're telling me that I have been doing therapy for myself by having arguments with people who aren't there to release my anger?

I literally fired a therapist for telling me to talk to the chair.

I've always associated the word "anger" with aggression and harming yourself or others. I always avoided saying I was angry about something until I had a counsellor who would gently correct "frustrated" and "annoyed" to "angry". She then explained why she was saying that and stated that anger is an emotion, not an action 🤯 it's one of the very few things I've actually learnt from therapy. I wish I could be heard like she heard me, but she was only assigned to me by work for 6 sessions as they wouldn't approve more 😤

This led me down a rabbit hole about gestalt therapy and led me to some exercises that seem to have built in permission to let myself feel instead of just analyze… kinda scary really but the dam is gonna break at some point whether I’m ready or not.

My therapist said that repressed anger becomes depression - and I hate to say it, but she was right in my case

I’m glad there’s a therapeutic reason why I feel better after screaming and raging at an imaginary person in the empty car seat next to me lol

When I realized that 90% of my problems stemmed from me using rage as a way to hide from my emotions then sat with the anger - I suddenly started feeling so much better

Someone once told me that anger is the part of you that loves yourself and knows you didn’t deserve that or deserve better. Sit with it. Listen to it. Learn from it. Be loud about it. Then let it go. ❤

I find it so hard to express myself properly. I just cannot get angry at anyone but myself, so when I'm wronged, I aim it inwards at myself and it becomes sadness. I can't seem to break the cycle

once I started healing from my depression and coping with my body I started to get angry at others which I NEVER did before. still struggling with that because it's new and I'm not used to it and still feels guilty whenever that happens but it's still a huge step to just being able to be angry toward someone without completely destroying myself

Oh this has a name? Years ago my therapist made me do that, i gave it my best, but i just couldn't act out my feelings, still ever so reluctant to show emotions. And so she asked me to explain what I was feeling. The words rage, fury and confusion left my mouth so fast. Bless her heart, she saved my life.

I do this ALL the time. Driving by myself, getting ready in the bathroom by myself, in the kitchen washes dishes by myself. I just start talking to the person as if they were listening. Saying all the things I wish I had or could say to them as directly and clearly as I’d like.
