Anti-blackness is a global malady. People avoid being out in the sun to avoid getter darker, which is a normal process of the body producing more melanin to provide more photo protection. The term “hyperpigmentation” has been used indiscriminately to describe the undesirability of dark skin.

when I was young I had a DENTIST tell me my gums might not be healthy because they were darker. I didn't know that wasn't true until my 30s....so yea, it is that deep.
