@scotpilie_wx: Just watched the LPB special “The State We’re In” marking the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. It’s wild to look back at 2005 and see how far we’ve come. The cone of uncertainty has shrunk so much that today’s 5-day forecast is about as accurate as the 2-3 day cone was back then. Satellites like GOES-16 and GOES-19 now scan the Earth every 30 to 60 seconds, giving us precision we couldn’t even imagine two decades ago. With all that progress, it’s frustrating to see NOAA face budget cuts. These tools and people literally save lives. I was honored to be a part of this documentary and even more honored to share it with my friend Dorothea, who recently passed away. She is deeply missed. I’ll never forget her kindness, professionalism, and the light she brought to every space she entered. #Katrina #HurricaneKatrina #NOAA #BudgetCuts #HurricaneSeason
