Even though it is hard at times... Even though it might not feel right at times... Even though it may not be your will at times, in Matthew 5:43–48, Jesus calls us to love all of His creation and treat them with the utmost care, no matter who they are or what they did. It’s easy to give to those from whom we have received, and to return love where it was first shown. Even the tax collectors do that, those who were viewed as lowly, even as excommunicated (Matthew 18:17), considered enemies of the public and compared to sinners. If your love is only reciprocal, then you are no better than them, Jesus says. Since He calls us to be perfect as our heavenly Father is perfect (Matthew 5:48), do what once felt impossible. Follow His lead just like in Mark 2, where Jesus sat and ate with many tax collectors and even called Matthew (a tax collector) to be His disciple. For it is not the healthy and strong who need help, but those who are weak and in sin. Even when they do wrong, follow Jesus’ example: help them, show them love and compassion, be patient, and handle them with a forgiving heart and care. It may take everything in you to live this way, but as Jesus says in Matthew 7:14, “the path that leads to life is hard, and those who find it are few.” And through all of this, remember: “He will render to each one according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life.” (Romans 2:6–7) God bless 🕊️ #jesus #jesusedit #jesuseditsthatgohard #christianedit #hardchristianedit #biblestudy #Love #lovethyneighbor
