@amynicolerogers: This is what non verbal autism looks like. For extreme autism they aren’t misbehaving they are having a meltdown due to there brain struggling. My Besty is a hero! #happytuesdays #hanksfriends #autism
😢 what will happen to these kids when you're no longer around? nobody else wants this type of responsibility placed on them 🤔

Autism is a reasoning for action, it’s not an excuse for behavior. So yes he’s clearly frustrated but are we teaching him this is ok actions used when we are frustrated ? You have to teach them how to regulate and just letting them do whatever is a disservice to them.

I had students in my class who started off that way , but with redirection , communication boards, and patience I was able to help regulate this type of situation. I’ve noticed that kids only do this to parents because they allow it , it is a behavior and you can teach different ways to regulate his body . It’s not easy but possible

Y’all are very weird in these comments 😬 allow me (a Registered Behavior Technician) to share a little insight here…. ANY behavior (from an autistic person or not) is seeking one thing: communication! That is not by any means validating that it is okay to aggressive. Obviously it is not. That’s what us RBTs and other professionals teach— proper ways to request what it is they need.

I so hope this comment isn’t inappropriate, I know different families feel differently but does he type? He looks like he’s trying very hard to communicate something

And he’s not trying to hurt you, he’s looking for connection. But someone on the outside doesn’t understand

My son acted like this once and we haven’t been out to eat as a family since. I cried my whole way home.

It truly takes an incredible amount of patience and understanding to manage. I used to work at RHD Life Path Step-by-Step with many individuals on the autism spectrum and more, and oh my God—so many of them still hold a special place in my heart. But after I had my babies, it just became overwhelming for me. Bless those parents who continue to love and handle this every single day.

He probably likes pressure either on his forehead or like to kind of between the eyes. I have a kid that loves to use her chin and press down and so we have to be very careful with the way that we allow her to do that because she can really hurt us with the amount of pressure she puts on her chin and Vice versa.
