Let’s do a haircut. There is this creator @AshleyMac who says hairstylist are gauging clients. I admit, I’m expensive. I charge 175 for a men’s cut. But with that comes talent and skill. I never use clippers. I can do a cut in 30-45 min but I block out 75 min. Because it’s not about the cut. I mean it has to be good for that price but also the grow out holds its shape. I also build relationships. I’ve been doing hair for 15+ yrs. Once a lady saw Picasso at lunch. She asked him to sketch something. He did it in a few minutes she asked him why he charges so much. He said it’s not about the time spent but the skills and talent he’s created over the years. I understand ash comment but she made that assumption as a whole industry. I understand that some younger stylist may be charging close to what I charge. But if they aren’t busy and complaining then they aren’t ready to raise prices. Your clients will let you know by not showing up. I raised my prices to loose clients and to have a smaller intimate clientele. So someone who was a beauty school drop out 10 yrs ago making claims of something she nknows nothing about is ridiculous. Things have changed TREMENDOUSLY in the last few years. At the end of the day clients will spend their money where they want. Ash complains that she never is happy with her cut so she cuts it herself. She also colors her own hair. And she is a musician who charges her rates. If she can draw a crowd then congrats. But, I can’t find her on Spotify. Anyways, charge what you are worth. We’ve worked hard to be here.
