“We need to work, to decolonize our mindsets and dismantle the systems that have held us hostage. To overthrow the regime in Upper Volta, we may not even need to summon heavily armed mercenaries; sometimes, it takes nothing more than banning the importation of champagne, lipstick, or nail polish, that alone can destabilize us. Because today, the petit bourgeoisie has been conditioned to believe that life is unbearable without these products. But our true work lies in reconditioning our people to embrace who they are, to stop being ashamed of their own realities, to be content with their truth, and even take pride in it. It’s perfectly fine if others live differently, but it must also be normal for us, as Africans, to live according to our own values and not as poor imitations of foreign ideals.” — Thomas Isidore Noël Sankara And that, right there, is the reason we wrote Untold Chronicles. Because only we, as Africans, can tell our story the way it truly happened. Only we can teach our children that there were thrones before treaties, queens before colonizers, empires before missionaries. That before the ships came, before the treaties carved us apart, there were kings in Benin, scholars in Timbuktu, warriors in Kano, and goddesses walking the banks of Osun and Nile. Our history did not begin in chains. It began in brilliance. Let us teach the next generation that we had civilizations, systems, rulers, and traditions long before the invaders brought their flags and their crosses. Let’s make it clear to the world that Africa was not waiting to be discovered, she was already rising. This is why we wrote Untold Chronicles: to remind our people of where we come from, what we survived, and the legacies that must never be forgotten. From the rise of ancient kingdoms to the invasion of colonizers who tried to erase them, our pages carry the truth, raw, beautiful, and untamed. Our history must be told. Loudly. Boldly. Truthfully. Because if we don’t teach it, they’ll bury it. And we refuse to be buried. 📕 Untold Chronicles is officially out.
