"Humanoid robots are just a demo. They can't actually do anything useful." The hardware is further along than people think. The bottleneck now is physics. A robot hand can move. What it still struggles with is predicting what happens next: how a cup slips, how fabric folds, how one object pushes another. Researchers call the shortfall the sim-to-real gap, and in dexterous manipulation it's still one of the hardest open problems in the field. So the work has shifted. Instead of testing every idea on slow, expensive hardware, labs are building simulators and "world models" that learn physics from real-world experiments, then running millions of virtual attempts against them. One robotics simulation company claims an hour of real time can become 100 days in simulation. NVIDIA describes its whole strategy as turning robotics' data problem into a compute problem. That means the next stage of robotics is built in data centers. Every simulated attempt and every world model is training that needs large amounts of power and compute. That's the part of the story we work on at IRG: finding powered land and getting capacity built where communities are ready for it.
