I’m doing psychology and child development at a level and it just makes me understand how people think, how children think like how their behaviour is mostly due to environmental factors like smacking isn’t needed. There is other punishments that work and can keep a respectful boundary without that fear

Bring back the fear. Kids have been pandered too for far too long now because of this soft parenting style. Look how kids treat police or teachers. They act like this because theirs no fear of real consequences to their actions.

Ok hear me out, I was smacked when I was a child… I am very close with my mum and dad and I was brought up to be kind and respectful. Yes I feared getting a smack but it worked, I behaved! I didn’t fear them in general, I spoke to them about everything and loved them dearly.

The fact that she calls it a “little tap” because she is afraid to call it a smack shows that she knows it was wrong and shouldn’t have been done to her 🤷🏻♀️

Raising children is different for everyone. My parents slapped my behind when I was naughty, it worked for me and clearly worked for Grace. It’s not linear. No one is an expert

she is correct, gentle parenting doesn’t work! but it doesn’t mean you have to smack your kids, just don’t let the gentle parenting get past the point of no return before you have to result to that.

I agree with Grace.. Growing up knowing you’d get a smack for being naughty, answering back, being rude etc stopped you from doing it. It instilled discipline and respect in you from an early age, something there is a distinct lack of in the children and youth of this country today. There is a ridiculously high level of crime, bullying & m*rders compared to when I was a child and it is only getting worse. There are gangs of youths harassing communities etc, again, none of which there was when I was a child. What’s changed.?! The world is becoming “soft”, you can’t do this, can’t say that……it’s a joke. Perhaps if parents did still smack their children and instil that “fear” and discipline from doing so, there may be less awful things happening in society.

every single child ive seen that has been 'gentle' parented ate feral!!! like proper gobby, spoilt, nasty little brats! that think they can do whatever they want cuz end of day punishment is just a few words from parents and no real repercussions

My dad used to kick me up the stairs to my room when I was like 5. I’d sit in my room and cry and have bruises on my legs and my backside would be on fire. Nearly 25 years later I’ve still never forgotten it but he barely remembers it. Kids remember more than you think

smacking your child does not equal beating them. some people are clearly too sensitive for this conversation. smacking kids used to be very normal, because we had to learn who was in charge. I hated it but now my parents and I have a closer relationship than ever. teachers don't discipline, parents don't discipline. not smacking kids is what has made them so unruly.

I wasn't smacked, I was given silent treatment and disappointed looks that made me feel soooo ashamed of myself that no physical violence or shouting was needed
