It’s because they have the nerve block team most ER don’t have this for this massive amount of patients

Are we seriously going to pretend like this is cutting edge? This is great to keep a patient comfortable for a few hours and then they get out of the ER and the block wears off. Guess what that hip fracture patient will be getting then…. Narcotics.

Cool, but as an RN I don’t think this is very practical in a busy ER. Also some pain is a good thing to prevent further injury.

Cool but then it doesn’t last. Then there is post op care and recovery for pain management. Can’t go every few hours to every day to get a nerve block. I have had them for surgeries and they are great but when it wears off the pain is intense

as someone with chronic pain the fight for meds that work is exhausting. if advil worked for my pain, I would take it.

Nerve blocks for hip fractures are amazing. Opioids often won’t help and can make people nauseous and confused. Blocks and manage or eliminate pain until the pt can get into the OR.

Remind me never to go to this hospital if something major happens to me. I find it astounding that they will do anything outside of prescribe. Something that actually works and has worked for years.

This is great, but not novel. This has been standard for any practitioner that reads literature regularly.

This has been very successful for ortho surgeries also. My husband has rotator cuff and biceps tendon repair. His nerve block last 24 hours and only used a couple of pain pills on day 2 and 3 and have minimal discomfort.

there are serious risks involved with nerve blocks though. I've had them done and as a result of the doctor's incompetence and arrogance my nerve has been permanently damaged. I'd rather have doctors who are knowledgeable about to work with patients with complex health histories that include pain management with medication.

As long as it doesn’t cost us thousands of dollars for these “options” that are not covered by our insurance anybody would be ok with that

nerve blocks are appropriate for acute settings, but during post op, rehab post injury, going home, actually managing a condition are more complex and challenging. I don't understand why this is being sensationalized when worldwide we don't have nerve block teams at the ready to do this. I think it's a great tool amongst a variety of pain management tools and strategies that every single individual will need a unique combination of for best care and outcomes but making it a big deal to numb the area is a bit ridiculous. it's very standard for #hips to receive an epidural or nerve block too btw...

Hell no. Nerve blocks paralyze the area and wear off after about 3 hours. They can be extremely uncomfortable, especially in those who have sensory issues.
