So hard for children to be believed sometimes for example when an abusive parent is a pillar in the community and a monster at home.

Always fascinated by those of us, with truly horrifying childhoods filled with abuse of various horrors... who've not become addicts, or vagrants, or abusers-of-others ourselves. Why? With comparatively same backgrounds... why does one turn into a social, legal, parental burden, and the other a law-abiding, tax-paying, loving/loved partner and parent? Why?!?! 🤔 But, Seriously... WHY?!?! 😔

What about inherited trauma like what was proven with the Emory University mice cherry smell study? What happened to our parents and grandparents is stored in us as if we experienced it ourself.

Idk when.. But, at some point I realized that there never were any role models in my life, only bystanders. And that always hits me hard.

We used to speak of childhood as our formative years. I’m not sure when we disconnected from that but I’m glad to know research has been done to prove how important childhood is

The belief that child abuse is rare so kids shouldn’t talk about it with their friends, family etc…. It’s not rare. At all. This is apparent

the crux is the people in the child's life who were trusted to protect them, didn't.

My mum took her own life when I was 5. My father didn’t cope well. He left me to it on my own in my bedroom from age 5. I did everything for myself. He even ate in a different room to me. I had no friends, I wasn’t allowed. The end result? Polymyalgia Rheumatica age 48, and Ankylosing Spondylitis. I’m almost bedbound.

Truth is your family knows and sees it. They ignore it because they feel helpless and ashamed. Then they're confused when we grow up and are distant 🙃

He wrote The Body Keeps the Score, it's an amazing book that helped me learn about my body holding onto trauma; I absolutely recommend it for anyone who has been traumatized.

I have bipolar disorder and ADD. I can see how the trauma from being bullied as a child and being raised by a very reactive single parent led to ADD. The diagnosis has changed my life for the better, I also don’t think it’s a bad thing to be curious about the “ingredients of your cake” 💕

It drives me insane how impactful and possible preventing childhood trauma is -and all the while all leaders ignore their responsibility to prioritize addressing it.
