@explainingacars: The starter motor is the small but powerful electric motor that gets your car’s engine running. When you turn the key or press the start button, the battery sends current to the starter motor. Inside it, an electromagnet pushes a small gear, called the pinion, forward to mesh with the large gear on the engine’s flywheel. At the same time, the motor spins the pinion, which in turn spins the flywheel and begins rotating the crankshaft. This cranking motion is what allows the engine to pull in air and fuel, leading to the combustion process. Once the engine fires up, the starter motor’s job is done. A mechanism inside it quickly pulls the pinion gear back so it doesn’t stay engaged with the flywheel. This prevents damage to both the starter and the engine. Because it only works for a few seconds each time you start the car, it doesn’t need to run continuously, but it must deliver a strong burst of power instantly. That’s why a weak battery or faulty starter motor often results in the engine failing to crank. #car #explainingacar #fyp #carcare #vehicle #startermotor
