@stefanholtnbc: The invisible safety net at the end of the runway. What is EMAS? And how did it help stop a plane at Chicago Executive Airport after it ran off the runway? #travel #aviation #safety #planecrash #avgeek @NBC Chicago
Unfortunately Chicago knows all too well about crushed concrete/tarmac. Rip Meigs Field

so, like the sand pit at the end of a 1/4 mile drag strip. Interesting 🤔

So do they have to replace it every time when a plane needs it?

it’s ironic that the FAA literally just did a random “did you know” post on instagram explaining exactly what EMAS is

Great video. I happened to be part of the recovery crew on this incident. Your statistics I found very interesting, personally been involved in 3 EMAS recoveries. It’s very interesting material that finds its way into everything when disturbed.

You know what… this brings me comfort. Whenever I land at midway I’m like “they need to slow this thing down, we don’t got a lot of room here.” And now knowing this, I can relax a bit.

I heard some (private) pilots avoid EMAS to preserve the jet/cost if they think the overrun won’t be too far

34 has 5,000 ft of runway. Plenty of rnwy for that type of plane. WX wasn’t bad either. Wonder why they landed so long

The fact that, that same exact runway was the first time I’ve flew a Cessna this hits close to home. And also about 1/8 mile away of my childhood aswell.
