In Spain and Latin America having two last names is the norm and we survive just fine susan, it’s not that hard 😂

In Québec, Canada, it is actually illegal to take your husband’s. It has been for more than 40 years. To me, the idea that a woman would give up her last name after marriage is so foreign.

Fun fact. In Brazil is common to keep your maiden name. Actually. Most kids also have 2 last names. One from each parent. :)

I didn’t take my partner’s last name when we got married. We’ve had a child, bought a house, multiple cars, and both had successful careers while being married with two different last names. People make it a much bigger deal than it really is.

My friend had THE BEST response to her MIL when she said ‘it’s tradition’. She asked MIL if she celebrated Kwanza, Seder, henna, tribal coming of age tatoos, or the ancient practices of neck stretching. MIL said no. She said exactly, you can choose to celebrate traditions or not depending on what you want for your life. MIL had absolutely no comeback and used that phrase on her husband years later. Awesome.

I kept my last name when I married, no change, and when my step-dad asked “how could you?!” I said “it was simple, actually…I did nothing. I sat there and relaxed, did NOT go to social security or the BMV or the 800 other pain in the a$$ places. Easiest thing I’ve ever done “.
