The father took advantage of the mother’s guilt over her affair, and used it to control her more. If someone cheats you leave, or work it out. Cheating is not grounds for taking control of finances and micromanaging their social life (at least not to this degree). The fact that some people are saying they deserve each other is crazy.

“He didn’t abuse us” then describes abuse. I’m glad she got away from them cause holy geez. They don’t care about OP and are selfish people. She doesn’t need those people and her brother seems to be a genuinely good man. Her mother is likely in a cycle of abuse and unfortunately i believe she has every right to not have to sit and try and fix these people. OP definitely has a big heart and a kind person and i know she’s gonna get the support and love from her future family and brother.
