My family has a code word because of this! Like we would ask someone to say the code word and if they don’t, then it’s ai and a scam.

Hang up immediately on any suspicious call and call back the source whether it be a family member, your bank, financial institution, etc. Never take a call asking for money seriously, it’s ALWAYS going to be a scam!!!

This happened to my mother in law and basically she went to the bank…took out $12,000 all while the man was on the phone with her-the bank teller was really suspicious and kept trying to alert her something is wrong but she’s oblivious and wasn’t picking up what she was doing because she was so scared. Then a Lyft came…the caller had told her how to package the money and to give it to the driver…she was in Delaware and the address it was going to was in nj…long story short- the Lyft driver recognized what was going on and called the police!

Oh my god this exact thing happened to me 3 years ago and I’m still scarred. I had to change my mom’s name in my phone because I couldn’t look at a call from her contact name after that without my stomach dropping. So sorry this happened to y’all! It’s traumatizing and truly disgusting people do this.
